The village of Moreland Hills is a residential suburb located approximately 14 miles east of Cleveland., Moreland Hills is one of 7 communities that were formed out of the original Orange Twp, which was established in 1820.

Settlement began in 1815 in the areas where the road that became Ohio Rt. 87 crosses the Chagrin River. The families of Serenus Burnett, C. L. Jackson, and Seth Mapes were among the early settlers. In 1837, James A. Garfield, second son of Abram Garfield and 20th president of the U.S., was born in a log cabin near SOM Center. and Jackson roads.

Beginning in 1897, the Cleveland-Chagrin Falls Railway contributed to the suburban development of Moreland Hills, bringing residents back and forth to employment in Cleveland, and visitors to an amusement park built by John Stoneman and to the adjoining Crystal Lake.

The children of Moreland Hills attend school in the excellent and well-recognized Orange School District or in the Chagrin Falls School District.

The Moreland Hills Women's Committee is a non-profit service and social organization open to All female residents of the village. The purpose of the Committee is betterment and advancement of our community through annual fund-raising projects. Since its inception in 1952, the Women's Committee has held rummage and plant sales almost every year to raise money. These funds are disbursed at the end of each year to local charities and used for community improvements. In addition, the Women's Committee hosts several social events each year including a Wine and Cheese Party in the early Spring to welcome all new residents of the village and the Fall Luncheon which is open to all female residents of Moreland Hills. In addition, we plan monthly field trips and have two couples dinners each year.
