Mayfield Village Profile

The following is a brief background of how Mayfield Village came to be the community it is today. (Note: This is an excerpt from the Village Charter.)
Today, a stately gazebo, the Mayfield United Methodist Church, Village Shell and a small shopping plaza encompass the intersection. The Village Hall, Police Department and Senior Center/Community Room are adjacent to the Gazebo. A new Fire Station (dedicated in 1996) is close by, and the Building and Service Departments are located just a little farther north.

Mayfield Village is part of the Mayfield City School District. The Board of Education, Mayfield Center Elementary and Mayfield High Schools are located within the confines of the community. Mayfield High School boasts a state-of-the-art indoor field house and swimming pool.

Visitors to Mayfield Village will find that it still has much of the rustic charm of its early years. The North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks covers nearly one quarter of the 4.2 square mile Village. Beautiful Sunset Pond, picnic areas and miles of hiking trails are located within the North Chagrin Reservation. Wiley Community Park is located at the site of the Building and Service Departments. Two baseball diamonds, volleyball, basketball and bocce courts, a playground and picnic area are some of Wiley Park's amenities. Recently, the Village acquired 10 undeveloped acres from Cuyahoga County for use as open park land. In addition, Mayfield Village has acquired the 78-acre Parkview Golf Course across from the North Chagrin Reservation. In this area is the beautiful new Mayfield Village pool--Parkview Pool--which opened in 1999. A new playground is presently being constructed nearby. Another new amenity is the Wetlands Preserve with a one-mile circular path, adjacent to Parkview Pool.

Mayfield Village has many fine residential neighborhoods graced with homes of various styles and spacious yards. One attractive industrial park, Beta Drive, is located within the community.

Many volunteers serve on several active committees in the Village. Most of the organizations hold monthly meetings and host a variety of special events throughout the year. Some of the events include: An Arbor Day Ceremony, an Ice Cream Social, a Turkey Raffle, a Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast, a Fabulous 50's Classic Car Cruise Night, a Fourth of July Celebration, Summer Concerts at the Gazebo and a Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. Additionally, the Commission on Aging holds weekly activities for senior residents and the Recreation Board offers a variety of activities for children throughout the year.

The Mayfield Township Historical Society is housed in the handsome Bennett VanCuren Home adjacent to Wiley Park. Painstakingly restored with loving care by dozens of volunteers, the home is a living museum that captures the spirit of Mayfield's past.
