Cleveland Heights was first settled in the early 1800s. Initially it was a farming community and a part of East Cleveland. In 1903, the village of Cleveland Heights was created. The area was so named due to its location on a plateau east of the City of Cleveland. Cleveland Heights was incorporated as a city in 1921.
